XXXX

Looking for places to go at high tide, in a city that bends around a river that shortly arrives at its destination, makes for a little challenge.

Waa, the tides up!

The tide was supposed to be against us from the get go, but while I waited on the grassy bank watching rowers pass to and fro, the outfall was surprisingly un-flooded at this hour. We were happy to seize upon this good fortune.

Acoustic Terrors

Tired and sore footed, I emptied my shoes and socks of sand from Checkmate, while we looked at the high tide coming into Batcave, making our entry there impossible. We decided to have a look at a few places close by, then head for a Dsanktuary entrance in the hopes tide would not foil us there also.

Checkmate Hiking

I had always wanted to have a look in Checkmate or Woolongabba Darkie as some call it. I had see old YouTube clips, strange carpark installations and read online about it from my first burgeoning interest in exploring underground. Aydun had suggested we go there first on what we had both hoped would be a long and prosperous night of multiple drain explores. Turns out Checkmate had more to offer than we had bargained for.

Hide and Seek

Hidden infrastructure fascinates me, it's the unseen cogs that drives the world around us, but to most people bobbing along through life, it goes completely unnoticed, and even when noticed, ignored.
Finding images like this from our southern neighbours got me thinking, where does Brisbane hide its underground arteries?

Internet Draining

It's always interesting meeting someone from the net for the first time, you never know what they are going to be like, and when you plan on going underground into a dark hole with them the first time you meet, it sort of gives you pause for thought.

Power Drain

This was the first drain I explored and it's choice was mostly down to its convenience and lack of possible onlookers. There wasn't anything particularly interesting inside, but that didn't matter, it was a first and an experience to remember.

Sweet Dreams are Made of These

These shops were a neighborhood fixture, but everything has its time, and theirs was up. New developers planning a clean new shopping centre had decided to buy out all the small operators that made this warren of mostly old converted houses to erect the future.

Walk Right In

The first time you sneak into an abandoned building is a rush. From the fist spotting, to having a reccy about to slipping in for the first time. It's a great and memorable experience, and it soon leaves you wanting a repeat.
I stumbled upon this place by accident and was trying to be a good lad and get some exercise by walking a few stations across the city, when I happened on it.

At last Aquacave!

I finally got an evening to go for a bit of an explore, so I called an acquaintance I had not met up with before and he agreed, himself and a friend would like to come have a bit of a photo session in a drain called Toadie.

Sneaking About

The last time I came here I was a lot less nervous, but still didn't get all the way to the top, as I figured in daylight, I would be a curiosity wandering about on the skyline, which may attract the wrong sort of attention.
